Casino glossary

Plain-English definitions for the terms Reel Registry uses when comparing UK-licensed operators. No jargon without explanation.

UKGC licence

Permission from the UK Gambling Commission to offer gambling to customers in Great Britain. Licensed operators must verify your identity, offer safer-gambling tools and contribute to research and treatment funds.

Wagering requirement

The number of times you must stake bonus funds (or winnings from free spins) before they convert to withdrawable cash. A 35× requirement on a £10 bonus means £350 in total stakes before withdrawal.

RTP

Return to Player — the theoretical percentage a slot pays back over millions of spins. A 96% RTP game keeps £4 of every £100 wagered on average; individual sessions vary widely.

GamStop

A free UK self-exclusion service. Once registered, you are blocked from all UKGC-licensed gambling sites for your chosen period (six months, one year or five years).

Live dealer

Table games streamed from a studio with a human croupier. You place bets through the interface while watching the action in real time — closer to a physical casino than RNG table games.

Volatility

How a slot pays out: low-volatility games return smaller wins more often; high-volatility games pay less frequently but with larger potential prizes.

RNG

Random Number Generator — software that produces unpredictable outcomes for digital slots and table games. UK-licensed casinos must use tested RNGs audited by independent labs.

Wagering contribution

The percentage of each bet that counts toward clearing a bonus. Slots often contribute 100%; live blackjack might contribute 10% or be excluded entirely.

KYC verification

Know Your Customer checks — uploading ID and proof of address so the operator can confirm you are who you say you are and old enough to gamble.

Self-exclusion

A voluntary block on your gambling account or across all UK-licensed sites via GamStop. During exclusion, operators must prevent you from betting.
